Great solution for fast, reliable and easy to use portable storage!
This 2 Drive SATA External Hard Drive Enclosure delivers an ideal external RAID solution, allowing you to install two 3.5in SATA hard drives, connected to
almost any computer through either eSATA or USB 2.0.
For true eSATA convenience, the enclosure features built-in port multiplier support, allowing both of the installed Serial ATA drives to be connected to the host computer through a single eSATA cable.
True hardware based
storage solution - requires no software installation. Just install your two SATA hard
drives inside, set the RAID type, and plug it into a eSATA or USB port!
- Supports RAID 0, RAID 1, Spanning, JBOD and more
- eSATA and USB 2.0 compatible
- Compatible with all 3.5" SATA I (Serial ATA
1.5Gb/s) and SATA II (Serial ATA 3Gb/s) Hard Drives
- Built-in Silicon Image SiI-5744 hardware RAID controller for SATA drives
- No software drivers needed
- Works with Macs, Windows or Linux computers - any computer with a
functioning eSATA or USB 2.0 port
A versatile external storage solution, the enclosure supports any 3.5in SATA hard drive up to 2.0TB in capacity for a combined total capacity of 4TB, and can be connected to a computer through USB 2.0, if an eSATA connection is not available.
The enclosure features a built-in 50mm fan that re-distributes the heat of typical drive operation. This
can be especially important when using large capacity hard drives (750Gb to 2TB), and faster “spinning" drives (i.e 7200 RPM), as it can help optimize drive operability and in turn preserve stored data integrity.
The enclosure supports multiple RAID array configurations including RAID 0, RAID 1,
BIG (JBOD), SAFE33 & SAFE55 - allowing you to configure your external drives to best suit the application.
RAID 0 - Striping (FAST)
Set to RAID 0, splits the data and writes to both SATA hard drives at the same time,
moving data at double the speed of a single drive. RAID 0 combines both disks
into one volume...i.e. two 1000GB (1TB) drives are seen by the computer as a single
2 Terabyte drive!
RAID 1 - Mirroring (SAFE)
When set to RAID 1, all of your data is simultaneously written to both SATA
hard drives, creating a backup (or mirror) of your data on the 2nd drive. In the
event one hard drive fails, the enclosure will continue to function, reading and
writing from the good drive. Once a new hard drive is installed, the enclosure will
do an automatic background rebuild of the data to the new drive.
Spanning - Concatenation (BIG)
Spanning, like RAID 0 (striping) uses both disks as one volume. But unlike RAID 0 which writes a little data to each drive
in turn, spanning writes to one disk until it is full and then begins on the
next disk. Spanning is typically used if you have hard drives of different
capacities but would like to treat them as one volume.
JBOD - Just a Bunch of Drives (Individual Drives)
When set to JBOD, the enclosure configures your drives as two separate
drives. Each hard drive shows up separately to the Operating System.
Handy for users that need to use separate drives, but only want to use a single
eSATA or USB port to connect them.
SAFE33 and SAFE50
These two multi-RAID modes divide the external drives into two virtual storage areas,
one that focuses on data protection (RAID 1) and another area that provides increased capacity
(BIG mode). SAFE33 sets 33% to RAID 1 and 67% to BIG. SAFE50 sets
50% to RAID 1 and 50% to BIG. These two modes offer a balance between protection of critical data and maximization of space for non-critical data.
